Embark on an 8-day Langtang Valley Trek, a journey into the heart of Nepal’s untouched wilderness. Traverse lush rhododendron forests, cross glacial rivers, and explore charming Tamang villages rich in culture. Highlights include the serene Kyanjin Gompa, breathtaking views of Langtang Lirung, and the chance to hike up Tserko Ri for panoramic Himalayan vistas. Ideal for adventurers seeking a peaceful and authentic trekking experience, this trek combines natural beauty, cultural immersion, and awe-inspiring mountain scenery.
Day 1 is reserved to make your way to the bustling capital city of Kathmandu. Its colourful, crowded streets packed with shops stacking trekking and climbing gear to their very top in addition to the many tourist hotels and cafes with high mountains in the backdrop is enough to suggest that trekking in Nepal is going to be a different experience. With crowds from across the globe sifting through the city in search of climbing gear suited for the highest mountains, this place is your best bet if you need to buy some top-class equipment, at the best rates, for your future climbs or if you are missing something for the one you are on now! The shops and cafes in Kathmandu accept Indian currency but you might want to take this day to exchange your money to Nepal currency since cash is the only medium of payment on the higher reaches of the trek and the only money accepted in tea houses above is local currency.

We start early for our long drive out of Kathmandu. Syabrubesi is the starting point for all the treks into the Langtang Valley. The journey from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi is a bumpy ride on long winding roads with outstanding views of impressive peaks like Manaslu, Annapurna and Ganesh Himal. We stay the night at a tea house in Syabrubesi.
Duration: 6 hour trek
After breakfast, we start our trek along the Langtang Khola. The trail for today takes us through temperate zones of forests thick with oak and rhododendrons. After a series of ascents and descents through the jungles, we cross a bridge over the Langtang Khola to get to the other side of the river. The trail from here is steep all the way up to Lama Hotel. We spend the night here in a tea house.

We are gaining over 1,100M in altitude today. It is likely to be a heavy day. The mountain landscape abundant in waterfalls is an effective distractor, however. As we reach the green meadows of Ghoda Tabela, we begin to see the white peaks of the Langtang range. This range of mountains boasts of over a dozen high-rising peaks ranging from the elevation of 5,500M to over 7,200M. Our trail continues to climb up the widening valley, passing a few temporary settlements used by herders. We pass a Buddhist monastery before reaching the Langtang village. This village which was one of the worst affected during the earthquake in 2015, has since been rehabilitated. From here we continue towards Mundu where we stay the night.
Duration: 2-3 hours trek
Today is a relatively short day and also one where we hit the highest altitude for this trek. After breakfast, we head out to Kyangjin Gompa, a principal monastery of the region. The route brings us through elements which are characteristic of the landscape of Nepal – plenty water mills, innumerable prayer wheels, and countless chortens which are sacred mounds of rocks with Buddhist inscriptions carved on each one. We also pass by the largest mani wall in Nepal made from stone with prayers written on them. After the short trek, we spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the Buddhist shrine in Kyangjin Gompa and the surrounding areas admiring the many mountain peaks in the region.
Duration: 6-7 hours trek
It’s time to head back. We retrace our steps to Lama Hotel after a heartful breakfast at Kyangjin Gompa. The trail is mostly downhill as we pass through mysterious forests and the beautiful villages of Tamang. Passing through these villages is one of the highlights of this trek as these villages offer a glimpse into the culture of the region. We also get to enjoy the views of the Himalayan peaks that we had missed climbing up. We stay the night in Lama Hotel.

On our way down to Syabrubesi we cross Bamboo and Pahiro villages. It is an easy trek down to the place where we started which also happens to be to one of the biggest towns in the district.
Distance: 120 kms
Duration: 7-8 hours drive
It is the same drive back that we took on Day 2, now in the other direction. Expect to reach Kathmandu by evening. We spend the night at Kathmandu.
